Staff Spurred On To Give With Company’s Dollar For Dollar Matching Contribution

PowerSeraya to donate $25,000 from staff and company.

31 December 2004 – PowerSeraya Limited will be donating at least $25,000 to the Singapore Red Cross Society on 5 January 2005 when its in house collection closes.

Before the close of the year, staff from its corporate office at HarbourFront, its power plant on Jurong Island and retail arm Seraya Energy Pte Ltd responded to an internal email appeal for cash donations. Staff came forward to donate a collective amount of $12,500. Many were spurred on by the Management’s promise to match their contributions match dollar for dollar. There were some staff who wrote personal cheques ranging between $500 to $1000.

“This was a timely appeal as I was already planning to give and help the Tsunami victims. With the company’s dollar for dollar contribution, this means that even more money will be raised and be given in aid of the disaster,” explains Executive Rose Ling who topped up her original donation from $80 to $580.

Senior Vice-President John Ng added, “We have heard many stories of how staff had changed their travel plans to the affected countries, at the last minute. We feel blessed that none of our staff were hit by the tragedy. For many, this outpouring of funds speaks volumes of how we feel for the victims and their families. An original target of $10,000 was set from the start. To our most pleasant surprise, we surpassed the target in just two days.”

The cheque will be sent to the Singapore Red Cross Society on 5 January after the final collections come in from staff who return from their vacation.
