Seraya Energy Empowers Courts with Greater Energy Cost Savings

courts-case-study-2_bigAs one of the largest furniture, electronics and IT retailers in Singapore, a significant portion of Courts’ overheads go into electricity bills, especially when electricity is required to support the numerous in-store product demonstrations everyday.

Keeping Overheads Steady with Seraya Energy’s Fixedplus Energy Solution

One of Courts’ challenges was finding a cost effective solution for their energy consumption, in order to keep overheads low. With ten stores, Courts’ priority was also to work with an energy retailer that could provide good follow-up and after-sales service.

“When we signed up for a fixed rate package with Seraya Energy, not only did we enjoy a good rate, but also stability in our overhead costs amidst economic uncertainty. As a result of the fixed rate solution, we were able to achieve more than 20% savings against prevailing SP Services’ tariffs,” said Office Manager Agnes Lau, who manages the facilities of ten Courts outlets island wide. ”This was important to us, because when we moved into big box retailing in 2006, the savings had to be significant to help us run our operations more efficiently.”

PowerSeraya CEO John Ng explained why Seraya Energy’s FIXEDPlus is a suitable solution for Courts, “When we worked with Courts, one of their main focus was to keep their overheads low and their electricity expenses steady. With our fixed rate solution - FIXEDPlus, Courts locked in their contract at an attractive rate which saved them a considerable amount compared to the SP Services’ tariffs they were paying at the time.”

“Using FIXEDPlus also meant that Courts was not affected by the volatility of the market which then made it easier for them to budget and project their electricity expenses,” added John.

Leveraging on technology to empower customers

As a value-added service, Seraya Energy has a dedicated customer portal where customers are empowered to gain access to their billing and energy consumption information for in-house analysis or presentation.

Agnes is an active user of the SEnergy portal: “We like the fact that Seraya Energy has a dedicated customer portal called SEnergy where we can easily retrieve information such as our last 12 months’ bills and load consumption reports. This information is useful for our analysis and business operations. We can also obtain exclusive insights on the foreign exchange rate and oil markets from the updates provided in the portal.”

Agnes also gave her take on Courts’ future working relationship with Seraya Energy. “We have developed a close working partnership with Seraya, which has benefited our business tremendously. We look forward to working together to explore further cost efficiencies with environmentally-friendly solutions.”
